ABOUT ME

So this is me, Shaun Tyler, I’m a Registered Osteopath and Personal Trainer. I’ve been a Personal Trainer since 2001 and qualified as an Osteopath in 2017. I run my osteopathic clinic from home near Abbey Fields, Colchester and Reflex 18 Injury Hub on Peartree Business Centre, Colchester.

As an osteopath I treat wide variety of injuries to muscles and joints of the body including back and neck pain, muscle strains, posture related injuries and age related aches and pains.

As a personal trainer I work with people with all sorts of goals including weight loss, pain management, back care, rehabilitation and stress relief.

WHY DID I CHOOSE MY CAREER AS AN OSTEOPATH?

The reason I wanted to join the profession was because of my own experiences after being treated by an Osteopath. I was a member of the 3rd Battalion Parachute Regiment and injured my knee. It was a serious injury and I was medically discharged.

I’d tried different therapies and therapists but nothing really helped. I was fortunate to meet Carl Todd (now the England Football Team, Osteopath). While he took into account my knee he actually treated my hip and ankle. For the next week or so my symptoms had improved dramatically so much so that I could actually perform the rehab exercises I’d been set months beforehand.

I was fascinated by the whole body approach of Osteopathy. I worked as a personal trainer and furthered my training in courses in injury rehab, back care etc but I realised that this could only take me so far.

As I knew my knee was a ticking time bomb and I would require a total knee replacement I decided to enrol at the British School of Osteopathy. I had the total knee replacement three years ago and I’m really glad I had my training to fall back on as it helped me recover more quickly. My goal now is to promote Osteopathy in Colchester and help as many people as I can.

WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM ALL OF YOUR COMPETITORS?

This one is a hard one as I don’t see myself as better than any other therapist, however I will do my best to explain my approach to treatment and management of your pain. With a combination of osteopathy and personal training my goal isn’t to make you better, but to make you better than you were before the injury.

1. First of all I will listen to you and your history and find out what your goals are. This might be getting back to running 🏃‍♂️ or being able to do a little gardening 🌳. Don’t worry if you don’t have a clear goal at the moment. Through mutual collaboration we will find out what you want, where you want to be and set a plan to get you there.

2. I will offer first class hands on osteopathic treatment that is relevant to your condition. This might include massage and soft tissue techniques, stretching and manipulation. I will work to reduce your pain and improve your function.

3. I will educate and empower you to execute and adhere to your treatment plan. I’m not just an osteopath but a highly experienced personal trainer. I will keep you on track when motivation is lacking so you can take control of your condition.

4. I promote exercise as a health intervention as well as a rehab and treatment tool. I will give you a comprehensive and progressive exercise and rehabilitation plan. This isn’t a copy and paste print out of some exercises but a personally designed plan. I will take into account where you are now, where you want to be and what resources you have available. I will prescribe exercises that you understand and are simple to perform. I will make you stronger and more resilient than you were before so you have a better quality and pain free life.
